Madrid, Spain – When walking tours lead to new friends!

As I’ve mentioned before, free walking tours are one of my favorite ways to see a new city!  They’re generally about 3 hours long, tip based, you get to know the layout of the city and where all the big attractions are, and sometimes, you get some new friends out of the deal!  Friends that remind you why you started traveling in the first place, and why those ‘5 minute Continue reading Madrid, Spain – When walking tours lead to new friends!

The Downsides of Long Term Travel

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to do some incredible things during my dabble in long term travel.  From trekking to Mt. Everest Base Camp, to SCUBA diving between tectonic plates in Iceland, to hiking the Great Wall of China and becoming a beach bum on the island of Koh Lanta in Thailand. I wouldn’t trade a single second of anything I’ve done in the past 13 months. Continue reading The Downsides of Long Term Travel

The day before everything changes a.k.a. I’m going on an adventure!

The day has almost arrived and I honestly can’t believe it. Tomorrow is the day I set off on a new lifestyle of travel, uncertainty, and adventure. I remember when the little countdown on the top right-hand corner of my laptop said ‘784 days left until I see the world’ or something like that.  Now that counter says 1 day. Over the past few weeks, and especially the last week, I’ve Continue reading The day before everything changes a.k.a. I’m going on an adventure!

One Month Until I Travel the World…Forever!

That’s right folks.  One month from today I’ll be jetting off to Seattle to start my trip on my journey to travel the world! I can’t believe it’s so close.  I remember looking at a countdown that said something like ‘873 days to go’.  And that was when I had only had a guesstimate on what day I might leave. Now we’re down to 30 days. Yeah it makes me a Continue reading One Month Until I Travel the World…Forever!

Quote of the Week: Just because it is, doesn’t mean it should be.

For those of you who know me it’s no secret how much I love Australia.  The people, the accents, the Tim Tams, the Starburst Babies, and the ‘no worries’ attitude. So it probably comes as no surprise how much I love the movie Australia.  It actually came out in theaters just as I was getting ready to leave the country after studying abroad.  I didn’t see it until I got Continue reading Quote of the Week: Just because it is, doesn’t mean it should be.

Quote of the Week: We will conserve only what we love

I finally got around to watching “Blackfish” this past week.  I realize that, as a marine mammal trainer, it’s something I should have watched long ago.  But I knew it was going to make me angry and so I avoided it. I have to say that I can definitely see how someone with no knowledge of the field or marine mammals could get drawn in.  It was pretty convincing in the way Continue reading Quote of the Week: We will conserve only what we love
