Everest Trek Day 10: Namche to Tengboche: New friends, more Everest, and the cold

Today it’s back to the daily grind and therefore we’re up nice and early to start our long day of walking. The good thing about this is Josefine and I were able to get some great pictures of the sun rising behind the mountains. One of the other reasons we were getting an early start was we were now on the crowded part of the trail and if we wanted to avoid Continue reading Everest Trek Day 10: Namche to Tengboche: New friends, more Everest, and the cold

Everest Trek Day 9: Our first ‘rest day’ in Namche a.k.a. no rest for the weary

Since we were back in the world of wifi, our first morning in Namche Bazaar I was supposed to Skype with my family at 645 pm their time or 9 am my time (or so I thought…having a 10 hour 45 min time difference is difficult people!). I ended up counting the wrong way in calculating the time difference - my bad….I blame the altitude - but luckily thanks to Continue reading Everest Trek Day 9: Our first ‘rest day’ in Namche a.k.a. no rest for the weary

Everest Trek Day 8: Monjo to Namche Bazaar - Bridges, internet, and movie night

As predicted I woke up starving this morning and had to eat a granola bar before even making it to my breakfast of Tibetan bread with fried eggs and hot mango juice. I was exhausted this morning as yet again I slept like crap. It’s been a pretty consistent thing the whole ‘not sleeping well’ (a trend that would continue for the remainder of the trek). Every night you go Continue reading Everest Trek Day 8: Monjo to Namche Bazaar - Bridges, internet, and movie night

Everest Trek Day 7: Surke to Monjo - Crowded trails and ‘showers’

As seems to be the general trend, we can’t just ever start out our day with a flat stretch of land. It always has to be either a steep uphill or a steep downhill. Today was the former - about an hour and a half of it. Luckily the fact that we’ve been doing this kind of trekking for a week now meant that it was decently manageable for us. Continue reading Everest Trek Day 7: Surke to Monjo - Crowded trails and ‘showers’

Everest Trek Day 6: Bupsa to Surke - Farts, stubborn donkeys, and valley views

Today was much easier than the rest for some reason. Ben had gotten an early start so Josefine and I set off together for a 1000m uphill journey alone. As we got going we had to pass two donkey trains but unfortunately got stuck behind a third (there were too many donkeys in this group and the path too narrow to pass). The last donkey in the train apparently didn’t like Continue reading Everest Trek Day 6: Bupsa to Surke - Farts, stubborn donkeys, and valley views

Everest Trek Day 5: Nuntala to Bupsa - Donkey crap and dal bhat

Today we hiked about 8 hours from Nuntala to Bupsa. After breakfast at our guest house in Nuntala we set off for another 2 hours downhill. I was feeling a teeny bit better first thing in the morning (as these things usually go) and while my knees and ankles still hurt I did alright. We had to jockey with multiple donkey trains today going both uphill and downhill (aka the Continue reading Everest Trek Day 5: Nuntala to Bupsa - Donkey crap and dal bhat

Everest Trek Day 4: Junbessi to Nuntala - Everest and the toughest day yet

Today was fucking brutal. There’s really no other way to accurately describe it. We set off from Junbessi around 7:30am and walked uphill for about an hour. It wasn’t too steep though and initially I had no problems with it. However after about 45 minutes of walking I started to feel a bit sick. I’d had some congestion since China that had lingered and remained as a cough and more Continue reading Everest Trek Day 4: Junbessi to Nuntala - Everest and the toughest day yet
