Back at the beginning of the year when I first started blogging and recording my budgets, I had said I wanted to save $20,000 before I left for my trip.
And guess what my friends…I did it!!
I have $20,448.45 in my ‘Travel the World’ fund and $3,000 in an ‘Emergency/Return Home’ fund.
Which brings us to a grand total of $23,448.45! Not too shabby in a year and a half if I do say so myself.
Ok so I’m not exactly rolling in the dough per se but that should be enough money to get me through Asia and into Australia and New Zealand where I can get a job and restock my funds a little bit.
Even if I keep to an average budget of $40/day (which is more than I plan on spending in most countries) I would still only end up spending $14,600 in a year leaving me a bit of wiggle room.
I do still have a few things left to buy for my trip which will take the grand total down a bit but thankfully not by too much.
Regardless I’m pretty damn proud of myself! And it makes me a little less nervous as I get ready to leave. I’m pretty comfortable with that amount and with my budgeting skills I think I can make this work.
T-minus 22 days!
Have you ever had something big you were saving up for? How did it feel when you finally reached your goal?

I’m pretty damn proud of you too. 🙂
Such a huge accomplishment! Congrats!
Thank you!
Dayum! Thats a lot of moolah! Congrats! I have a very hard time saving money, mostly because I love spending it, so when I save even a little its a big deal. I saved $4000 for a 3 month trek through Central America, that is the extent of my saving! Hopefully my year ahead in Korea I will be able to put some money away!
Thanks Katie! I completely understand…saving money is definitely no walk in the park! It’s very difficult and takes a whole lot of commitment that isn’t always easy to find. But anything you can put aside for travel is totally worth it. Good luck in Korea!
