The First of the Lasts - My Last Day of Work

Well today is my last day of work!

It’s bittersweet. I do like my job and am very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had over the last year. I have worked with some amazing people and animals and am going to miss them.

But the time has come to move forward.

I’ve had a few ‘lasts’ over the past few days - last day working with someone, last time hanging out with close friends, last ‘Taco Tuesday’ (that one is truly depressing).

Next comes my last day at work, more final hugs with friends, a goodbye to my trusty car, and my last time taking the trolley downtown.

There are going to be a lot of ‘lasts’ over the next 2 months but that’s ok. Goodbyes are going to be a bit part of my traveling life whether it be with people, places, or things. So I guess this is all just preparation for what’s to come.

It’s weird though. I’m not as sad as I thought I’d be only because for some reason it doesn’t seem real. I know this is all happening and it’s happening fast, but it hasn’t hit me yet. I’m not sure when it will either. Maybe when I’m on the plane back to Boston? Maybe when I say goodbye to my family? When I’m having a panic attack halfway across the Pacific Ocean? We shall see. (edit: it happened as the plane touched down in China).

But anyway, here’s to the final California sunsets, the last good Mexican food I’ll have in a long time, lots of final dolphin kisses, Padres’ games, hikes, friendly hugs, and the end of endless summer days. I’ll sure miss you San Diego!

Did your last day at work, living in a city, or seeing friends seem real while it was happening? Or did it take a bit for it to catch up with you?
